Teflon® PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) PTFE resin is in a class of paraffinic polymers that have some or all of the hydrogen replaced by fluoride. The original PTFE resin was invented by DuPont in 1938 and called Teflon®. PTFE is a crystalline polymer with a melting point of about 621° F (327° C).

PTFE (Teflon) is the most inert material of the four seal materials. below shows the most commonly used media and their compatibility with the valve materials. It is the ultimate responsibility of the end user to determine the compatibility of the chemical being used in his or her particular application. Contact Hayward for  MATERIAL COMPATIBILITY. Teflon™ was discovered by scientist Dr. Roy Plunkett as he worked on developing a new refrigerant. This page contains a guide to selecting O-ring materials based on chemical compatibility requirements. The chemical compatibility data can be presented in one of two ways. First, you can select a specific O-ring material to view its compatible chemicals. Or second, you can select a specific chemical to view all its compatible O-ring materials. Non-production materials such as Teflon, Airweave Breather and the bag itself would be considered F.O.D. (foreign object debris/damage) if left in layup.

What Chemicals are Compatible with PTFE and Teflon®*? PTFE is the most versatile plastic in terms of chemical compatibility Highly resistant to most acids, alcohols, detergents and solvents Ideal for use with reactive and corrosive chemicals Neural tissue compatibility of Teflon as an implant material for microvascular decompression. Teflon is utilized in neurosurgery as well as in plastic, vascular and heart surgery.

Materials for use in vacuum are materials that show very low rates of outgassing in vacuum and, where applicable, are tolerant to bake-out temperatures. The requirements grow increasingly stringent with the desired degree of vacuum to be achieved in the vacuum chamber.

Solutions from Teflon™ Fluoropolymers. Teflon™ products have earned a reputation for dependability and innovation. 304L stainless steel, a low-carbon variant of 304 steel, is used for ultra-high vacuum systems. 316L stainless steel a low-carbon and low-magnetic stainless steel, used in accelerator technologies.
